Contact: FSU STUDENTS “FLASH MOB” TO PROMOTE THE ELECTION WHO: FSU Students Young voters or the “Facebook Generation” as they are known, are expected to turn out in record numbers on November 4. To ensure that students get out and vote, the FSU Center for Leadership and Civic Education is organizing a unique event promoting our civic duty. The event, called “I Scream, You Scream, ‘Noles Scream for Democracy,” has two parts and will take place October 28 & 29. First, students will have the opportunity to make t-shirts with pro-vote messages and enjoy ice cream on Tuesday, October 28 from 3:00-5:00 PM at The Dunlap Student Success Center. On Wednesday, October 29 students will meet at the Dunlap Student Success Center at 11:00 AM wearing the t-shirts they created to receive instruction on the “flash mob” event that will take place in the Oglesby Union. Students will scatter throughout the Union and freeze in place for 5 minutes at 11:15 AM to draw attention to themselves and the November 4 messages on their shirts. A flash mob is a large group of people who gather suddenly in a public place, perform an action for a brief time and then quickly disperse. Flash mobs have become increasingly popular to mobilize large groups of people and to spur attention on a specific issue. The Division of Student Affairs and The Center have created <http://election.fsu.edu> which is an online calendar of events happening at Florida State University leading up to the election. The Center for Leadership & Civic Education enhances the education of students for responsible citizenship and effective leadership. The Center (as it is known by students) is the hub on campus for a plethora of leadership and community outreach programs. ### |
