FORMER ANTIOCH PRESIDENT TO DISCUSS CONFLICT REDUCTION

Former Antioch College President Steven W. Lawry will discuss “The Terrible Burden of Narrowly Defined Identities: Toward New Perspective on Identity and Conflict Reduction,” in a free, public lecture at Florida State University.

Lawry is currently a senior research fellow for the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government where he manages an international research program on philanthropy and poverty reduction. He previously served as president of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio from 2006 to 2007. Prior to that, he worked for the Ford Foundation in several capacities, including as the foundation’s representative for the Middle East and North Africa, based in Cairo.

A Florida State University alumnus, he earned both a bachelor’s degree in government and international relations and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning here. He earned a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

His lecture, which is sponsored by the College of Social Sciences and the Shepard and Ruth K. Broad International Lecture Series, will be held:
