FSU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION TO HOST SYMPOSIUM ON ASSESSMENT

The Florida State University College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is hosting a two-day symposium as part of the college’s Dean’s Colloquium Series. The symposium, titled “Assessment for the 21st Century: Insight,” will focus on how to effectively and efficiently integrate appropriate assessment and instruction to improve student learning and education in general. It is scheduled to take place:

THURSDAY, OCT. 30, 1 – 6 p.m.

FRIDAY, OCT. 31, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

FSU ALUMNI CENTER
1030 W. TENNESSEE ST.

Keynote speakers for the symposium are James Gee of Arizona State University, Russell Almond of Educational Testing Services (Princeton, N.J.), and Mari Pearlman of Pearlman Education Group LLC.

The Assessment Symposium Series was established to provide Florida’s policymakers and educational professionals the opportunity to learn about the latest research by scholars from across the nation and to address educational issues of critical importance to the state of Florida. It will allow open discussion between speakers, respondents and attendees, and will include poster sessions highlighting research from College of Education faculty and graduate students. Topics will include innovative ideas about assessment, evidence-centered design, growth measurement, measurement of special-needs students, portfolio assessment, scoring of essay examinations, and teacher assessment methods such as PRAXIS.

The symposium is open to the public; detailed information, including registration, is available online at <www.coe.fsu.edu/SymposiumSeries>. The cost of the symposium is $40 ($15 for currently enrolled FSU students) and includes all sessions, refreshments, reception, and breakfast and lunch on Friday.
