FORMER U.S. CHIEF AUDITOR TO DISCUSS ETHICS IN GOVERNMENT

Former U.S. Comptroller and head of the Government Accountability Office David Walker will present the inaugural Joseph P. Cresse lecture at Florida State University on Oct. 7. Walker will discuss “Improving Ethics and Stewardship in Government.”

Walker now serves as president and chief executive officer of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and leads the foundation’s efforts to raise awareness and address several key challenges that threaten America’s future, such as federal budget deficits, entitlement benefits, health care costs, energy consumption and educational competitiveness.

Prior to joining the Peterson Foundation earlier this year, Walker was the comptroller general of the United States and head of the U. S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Appointed by President Clinton in 1998 and confirmed by the Senate, his tenure as the federal government’s chief auditor spanned both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Walker currently chairs the U.N. Independent Audit Advisory Committee. He serves on the boards of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and the Partnership for Public Service and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. He has authored two books and is the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary “I.O.U.S.A.”

Walker’s talk, sponsored by the Askew School of Public Administration and the Joseph Cresse Ethics in Government Distinguished Lecture Series, is free and open to the public. It will be held:
