FSU AND UNITED WAY OF THE BIG BEND TO ANNOUNCE NEW STUDENT ORGANIZATION

Florida State University and the United Way of the Big Bend will launch one of the first student chapters of the United Way in the nation on Sept. 16.

Not only is FSU one of the first universities to establish a Student United Way, the group is unique in that it is the only one that truly mirrors the organization and governance of a community United Way, according to United Way of the Big Bend President Ken Armstrong. The student group will raise funds, evaluate program needs and distribute funds to select organizations, including some student service organizations, he said.

Participating in an event to launch the Student United Way will be FSU President T.K. Wetherell, Vice President for University Relations and Advancement Lee Hinkle, Student United Way President Jesse O’Shea and Armstrong. FSU Student Body President Laymon Hicks and 2007-08 Student Body President and Rhodes Scholar Joe O’Shea also will make remarks.

This event will highlight upcoming events and opportunities for students to get involved in the Student United Way. It will be held:

TUESDAY, SEPT. 16
