Sept. 15, 2008 NOBEL LAUREATE HAROLD KROTO TO LECTURE ON INTERSECTIONS BETWEEN SCIENCE AND ART A free public lecture by Nobel Laureate Harold Kroto, the Francis Eppes Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida State University, will take place this week at FSU. Kroto will speak on “Science, Art and Design; Closer Than You Think” on: THURSDAY, SEPT. 18 “When considering the relationships between art, science and design -- particularly those between art and science -- why do so many discussions suggest that these relationships are one-way?” Kroto said in describing his lecture. “For instance, in recent years microscopes and telescopes have revealed spectacular images of both microcosms and the cosmos. Some would argue that such images are ‘found art’ and different from ‘works’ of art, which they say involve some human vision component. This presentation will explore these issues in pursuit of a deeper understanding of human creativity and enjoyment. An example of ‘found science’ will be presented.” Immediately prior to the lecture, Kroto will be honored at a Gold Award Ceremony and Reception sponsored by the Tallahassee Scientific Society, beginning at 6 p.m. The Chemical Sciences Laboratory is located just north of Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Chieftan Way near the center of the FSU campus.
