FLORIDA GOVERNMENT TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE TO BE HELD SEPT. 23-24

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Two days of educational sessions and vendor exhibits will provide an opportunity for state and local government and education employees to learn about the latest technologies at the 17th annual Florida Government Technology Conference (FGTC) Sept. 23 and 24 at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. The sessions will cover topics detailing government’s most pressing issues, new programs and solutions for the workplace.

This year’s theme is “Government IT -- Saving Green by Going Green.” The FGTC Advisory Board was composed of many agency CIOs helping to pinpoint the issues their management and staff want and need to hear about. Educational tracks were developed to cover topics such as Information Security and “Green” Initiatives implemented in the agencies not only to save money but to reduce resource consumption. In response to Florida’s governmental budget crisis, FGTC is inviting all government and education employees to attend the sessions at no charge.

This year’s keynote speaker is Scott McNealy, chairman of the board of directors of Sun Microsystems, a company he co-founded in 1982, and chairman of Sun Federal Inc. From 1984 to 2006, McNealy served as chief executive officer and chairman at Sun, steering the company to constant innovation in open, network computing.

McNealy will address how open source technology can drive growth and progress for Florida.

Also participating in this year’s conference is the FSU Green Showcase, presented by the FSU Sustainable Campus & Community Committee. FSU departments will display their “green” initiatives designed to save resources and have a positive impact on departmental budgets.

“For more than 15 years, FGTC has been and continues to be an excellent forum for showcasing the latest technologies and exchanging ideas,” said Bill Lindner, director of FSU’s Academic and Professional Program Services. “Our conference team works together with government agencies to develop a strong program.”
