FSU MAKES IT EASIER FOR STUDENTS TO GET TO CAMPUS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University and StarMetro, the city of Tallahassee’s transit service, are adding a new route, named Osceola, to their Seminole Express service beginning this Wednesday. Two buses will run the new route, which will travel west from campus along West Tennessee Street, follow the loop of Appleyard Drive, Mission Road and White Drive and then return to campus.

“The goal is to transport our students back and forth to their classes, eliminating the need for them to drive cars to campus,” said Hunter Hughes, interim director of FSU Transportation and Parking Services. “This new route will include stops close to several large student-oriented apartment complexes along Tennessee Street.”

The Osceola route becomes the fifth off-campus route for FSU’s popular Seminole Express service. In August 2007, FSU implemented four new routes that travel into the community surrounding campus, all of which are focused in heavily student-populated areas such as Pensacola Street and Jackson Bluff Road, as well as High and Ocala roads.

FSU students, faculty and staff can ride for free on any StarMetro bus, including the Seminole Express service, with a valid FSU ID card.

“Given $4-per-gallon gasoline prices, lack of available land for parking lots and the university’s ‘green’ initiatives, we are pleased that through our partnership with StarMetro, we were able to add this additional service this year,” said Paul Strouts, FSU’s associate vice president for Finance and Administration.
